Don't forget to recycle!

The holiday season is a time of over indulgence and excess. We eat more food, we consume more drinks and we pack our dustbins and trash cans with waste. This season, think before you throw and look for ways to repurpose and recycle plastic waste rather than throwing it away. Here's a roundup of some of our more popular recycling craft projects.

 

'Tis the season to pack the bins with garbage, from wrapping paper, to plastic bottles, to cardboard boxes. While almost all waste from a home can be recycled in one way or another, plastic cannot. It sits on our waste dumps for hundreds of years. This year, let's cut down on what does on the dump and look at alternative ways to use plastic bottles, trays, etc., and try to cut back on what we buy that's contained in plastic.

ABOVE: Even the kids can have fun recycling plastic during the holidays. These money banks or storage containers can be painted in fun ways. With guests and family visiting over the holiday period we tend to use more of everything! Repurposing plastic bottles with craft paint is easy and it will keep the kids occupied for hours! BELOW: If you are entertaining on a large scale and need to use plastic cutlery, don't throw away the spoons. You can make colourful mirror frames and wall decor with nothing more than plastic spoons, cut mirrors and Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint.

 

BELOW: Party pack containers always come in handy and these are made from the bottom section of a coke bottle. Cut according to the instructions and they stay closed on their own.

BELOW: You can also use plastic milk containers to make nifty little storage containers for small items that you use for crafts and hobbies, or for containing clutter in your drawers.
