Just the other day, I featured an article on how to make a DIY battery operated LED light fitting with remote control that will fill the house with light during load shedding. In this feature, I mentioned the HomeQuip set of 3 battery operated LED lights with remote control. I had another bright idea for using these battery operated LED lights in my living area. When the power goes out, walking into this room when it is dark is a minefield and I thought that making a wireless lamp would be a good idea. But then I had another inspiration... what about using these lamps as down lighters?

When you enter the room through the doors, there is an aisle that leads into the lounge. This would be a fantastic area to install the LED lamps and, with the remote control mounted on the wall just outside the room, the lights can easily be switched on and off at any time.

At a cost of around R260 at Builders, the HomeQuip set of 3 LED battery-operated lights come with a remote control for easy switching on and off. No wiring required and easy installation anywhere in a home.

The pack of 3 LED lamps comes with a remote control unit that has a mounting panel that can be fastened anywhere using double-sided tape.

I mounted the remote control unit just on the outside of the door frame so that it can be easily accessed when I need to switch on the down lighters.

And voilĂ . This picture was taken during load shedding! and the room was pitch black. Using the remote control, all three lights were switched on and you can see how much light they bring into the room.
