Just by looking at this amazing kitchen installation you would never know that the cabinets are not new. Wanting to save money on the kitchen installation for her new home, this clever homeowner shopped online for secondhand kitchen cabinets, and used a few clever tricks to save even more money on the total kitchen installation.
The original kitchen was completely gutted to remove the existing cabinets and fittings, leaving an empty shell to work with. The decision had already been taken to leave all the electrical and plumbing where it was, and save quite a bit on having to install or move plumbing and electrical for the new kitchen.
After searching online for secondhand kitchen cabinets, these were upcycled from an eyesore into what you now see fitted in this beautiful kitchen. If you're in the market for a new kitchen but want to keep costs as low as possible, you will be surprised at the bargains you can pick up on online auctions sites like gumtree and bid n buy. Homeowners are realising the potential of removing old cabinets and putting them up for sale, giving others a chance to upcycle old cabinets and give them a new lease on life.
To bring some interest and texture into the new kitchen the kitchen island was panelled with pine planks and stained a grey colour to complement the colour of the kitchen cabinets. The island itself is a basic plywood frame wrapped with wood planks and topped off with a quartzite countertop in white.
GOOD TO KNOW: Use a semi-gloss or gloss paint on kitchen cabinets, or choose a washable paint that allows you to keep cabinets clean.
