Tile over existing tiles
We took a page from the Family Handyman to see what they recommend for tiling over tile:
1. Use an angle grinder to remove any high spots on the existing tiled floor. It's also a good idea to go over the surface of existing tiles and roughen up the finish with 80-grit sanding flaps (used on an angle grinder).
2. Butter the back of the tiles being installed with a flat layer of tile adhesive (Renovate Tile Adhesive). For heavier tiles, also use a notched trowel to apply a layer of adhesive on top of the existing tiles.
3. Press the new tiles firmly onto the floor and slide perpendicular to the notched lines in the tile adhesive.
