consciously choose to say something inside of
your mind. However, thoughts often creep in
without our consent or intention to have those
thoughts, and many of these thoughts can be
negative.
It’s important to recognize
that the thoughts you have aren’t you. They’re
simply another thing in the world. When you view
your thoughts objectively, it can help you to
not be overcome by them. The next time you’re
caught up in negative thinking, instead of
viewing the thoughts as something you don’t
want, notice them without judgment. Bringing
awareness to your thoughts is one of the easiest
and most effective ways to combat negative
thinking.
Talk with a Friend or Therapist
We’ve all experienced negative thinking at
some point in our lives. However, the severity
and frequency of those thoughts change from
person to person. Sometimes, people need to talk
about how they’re feeling with someone else to
heal and move past the anxiety and distress
within themselves.
Talking with a trusted
friend or therapist is a great way to help pull
you out of a funk caused by negative thinking.
Therapists can also offer you tools and
resources to overcome incessant, negative
thinking in a healthy and productive way.
Incorporate Mind-Healthy Habits
You can incorporate many habits into your daily routine that will prevent or lessen negative thinking. Establishing a healthy routine is essential when it comes to protecting and caring for your mental health.
