Health benefits of apple juice
A few months ago I put together a feature on Juice Your Way to Health that looked at the health benefits of various fruit juices. We all know that an apple a day is supposed to keep the doctor away, but I was surprised to learn about another benefit of apple juice.
Acid reflex, chronic indigestion and excess stomach acid are syptoms of the 21st century. Too much stress, rushed meals and other factors all have a detrimental effect on our health and can cause a variety of diseases.
Most of us tend to forget that nature provides us with many invaluable gifts, and fruits are just one of those gifts. They are not only delicious to eat but they are also full of vitamins and minerals that help prevent many diseases.
Apples are one of the most nutritious and popular among all the fruits. Apple Juice is rich in nutrients such as Vit. A, Vit. B, Vit. C and minerals such as iron, potassium, phosphorus, silicon, chlorine etc. But apples also contain pectin and it is the pectin that acts as a natural medicinal substance and coats your stomach. It is also an absorbent and a demulcent (soothing agent).
What interested me the most under benefits of apple juice was this comment...
"Apples can be used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), preventing painful acid from backing up into the esophagus and helping the esophageal sphincter heal.
Over-the-counter and prescription medicines may give temporary relief of symptoms, but can also cause unpleasant side effects, and do not resolve the problem permanently. Here's how to use apples to treat acid reflux.
Apples work to reduce symptoms of GERD because they create an alkaline state in the stomach, neutralizing excess acids and aiding in digestion."
