Stop Cushions from Blowing in the Wind

We have some pretty gusty winds lately, and if your patio cushions end up in the pool - or next door - here's a quick fix to solve the problem.

When your outdoor furniture cushions are blowing in the wind, here's an easy fix to prevent them from becoming airborne when the wind picks up. Simply invest in an eyelet punch and grommets that you can use for a variety of other projects in and around the home.

YOU WILL NEED:

Eyelet punch and grommets

Bias binding, tape or cord (choose a colour that complements the colour of your cushions)

Large eye needle (upholstery needles are perfect)

Fabric glue or glue gun

HERE'S HOW:

1. Use a pencil or chalk to mark the location for punching the holes. On seat cushions, along the seam at the back is ideal. On small back cushions you can place in the centre back or at the top. Adjust the placement according to the size and shape of your patio furniture cushions and the frame design.

2. When making the holes an eyelet punch is the best, although you could also use a leather punch or an awl to make the holes. Line your eyelet punch with the marks to create holes for the ties to be thread through the fabric.

GOOD TO KNOW: Where you punch the holes apply a little fabric glue around the edges to ensure that the fabric does not fray.

3. Thread the bias, tape or cord through the needle and pull through the holes at the top and bottom.

4. Once the ties are pulled through on both sides make sure the lengths are even and then you can tie a knot to hold the ties in position. Repeat as you finish all the ties.

GOOD TO KNOW: If you need to secure small outdoor cushions you can use a button with large holes or slots.

When you have finished all the ties you can secure cushions onto the furniture frame and they will be held securely in place - no matter how hard the wind blows!
