Extend your living space outdoors
If your home does not have the luxury of large, open living spaces look to the garden to add on to your home. This is definitely a more affordable option than building extra rooms.
ABOVE: A tiled seating area - whether covered or not - that flows from the indoors into the garden, and that matches the flooring in your home, will visually increase the size of a home and provide plenty of extra space for entertaining. If you can afford to add an outdoor kitchen area you will have the luxury of being able to spend more time outdoors.
ABOVE: A small balcony or terrace - especially one with a view - is perfect for setting up outdoor entertaining space. If you are overlooked or have very little privacy on your balcony or terrace, consider using bamboo screens or trellis to block off section. Even shrubs and smaller varieties of trees will offer a more secluded space. Visit your local garden centre and ask for advice on what plants would be suitable for your balcony - taking into consideration the amount of sun or shade.
ABOVE: You can easily create an outdoor patio or terrace with the addition of a concrete slab. Even left in its natural state, concrete provides an easy and affordable way to extend your indoors into the garden. Decking is another stylish way to extend your indoors and, although more expensive, you can save considerably if you tackle this as a do-it-yourself project - it's not as difficult as you think!
