Save a fortune on clamps!

We have previously discussed the topic of clamps on Home-Dzine, but for this tip we're looking at ways to hold pieces together without using clamps.

My number one problem solver for holding sections together while glue dries is to use brown packaging tape. This stuff sticks to almost anything, but is easy to remove. It's tough too, you can wrap it around to hold pieces in place. And last but not least - it's cheap!

Next on the list is carpet tape. Although a bit more expensive, you won't need to use much for each project so it will last a long time. Carpet tape is double-sided and sticks like nothing else. If you need an extra pair of hands, but don't have any available, apply carpet tape to the sections to hold them together.

Another invaluable 'extra pair of hands' are sticky dots. This is another product that sticks to almost anything and sticks like mad. A couple of sticky dots where you need to join sections together, and they will hold in place while you drill pilot holes or screw together.

For bigger projects you can use ratchet belts - available at most auto repair suppliers such as Midas. They come in various lengths and you can buy at set for around R100. Wrap around and tighten to hold your project in place.
