Handy Trolley

How's your back? Moved any boxes of books lately? With fitted heavy-duty fixed castors and 100mm wheels to make a multi-purpose trolley, you can wheel almost anything anywhere!

YOU WILL NEED:

Part Dimensions Material
2 x lengths 450 x 20 x 190mm pine [F]
2 x lengths 600 x 90 x 90mm pine [D]
2 x lengths 450 x 35 x 135mm pine [C]
4 x 100mm fixed heavy-duty castors (bolt-on type)
16 x 50mm coach screws and washers
Used radial tyre (not steel-belted)

HERE'S HOW:

1. Measure, square and cut out the six lengths of timber. The sizes are not critical.

2. Lay the two 90mm x 90mm (D) beams on the table and place the bottom crosspieces (F) across them. Align, square up and secure the crosspieces in position with a nail at each joint. Screw the crosspieces to the beams with the two 50mm screws per joint.

3. Flip over the assembly and screw in place the two top crosspieces (C) using 65mm screws.

4. Use a jigsaw to remove the rim of a tyre from the tread, leaving 135mm of rubber tread. Make sure the tyre is not steel belted as it will be very difficult to cut. Cut two 450mm lengths of tread and drive six screws through each tyre into each of the top cross members. Don't screw the tyre down too hard or the screw may pull through the rubber.

5. Flip the trolley over and mark the position of the castors. For stability, fit them no more than about 10mm in from the corners. Pre-drill holes for the coach screws and use a ratchet drive to screw the castors in place.
