Dual purpose ping-pong table

These days dual purpose furniture is great for kids as it takes up less space than two separate pieces of furniture. But this dual purpose ping-pong table is perfect for a games room or den where children play because it also converts into a coffee table or games table, or even an activity table.

Designed by Mike Mak Design and available via Huzi Shop, you can buy the Ping-Pong for US$650 - or ZAR 6000.
OR you can go out and buy birch plywood and Rust-Oleum spray blackboard paint and make your own ping-pong coffee table for around R500. The choice is yours!

The original design is manufactured using red oak plywood, but if you do plan to make this design yourself you'll have to settle for birch plywood. Finish off the surface with Rust-Oleum Chalkboard spray for a finish that is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Add a couple of ping-pong bats and a ball and you're ready to play. Simply add the centre divider for miniature ping-pong with the kids.

Another feature that allows for more options is the chalkboard finish. Kids can draw their own race car track, or play games on the table top; wipe clean and you're ready for the next round.

For water based chalk-board paint mix 1 cup of matt acrylic paint and 2 tablespoons of tile grout. Mix well and apply with a foam roller. Apply two coats, with drying time between coats and sand with 180-grit sandpaper.

Before using the chalkboard, condition the surface by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the top and then wiping away with a slightly damp cloth.
