Make a storage wall shelf for boy's bedroom
This simple wall shelf can be mounted above a bed or desk to provide storage for toys, books and accessories, or decor. We used 16mm PG Bison SupaWood and the project took 30 minutes to cut and assemble everything.

You could use this storage shelf in other rooms as well. Mount in an entrance hall for hanging coats or keys, or in a bathroom as a towel rack.
Order your board and have everything cut to size at your local Builders Warehouse and then grab your power tools...

HERE'S HOW:
Note: Unless otherwise specified, all holes are pre-drilled with a 4mm drill bit and countersunk. All sections are joined using 5 x 50mm screws.
1. On the back section measure and mark to drill out 25mm diameter holes for the pine dowels.
GOOD TO KNOW
Place a piece of offcut underneath where you are drilling the holes to reduce the amount of chipping on the underside.
2. Measure and mark at 300mm from both edges of the bottom section. Use this as a guide to mount the shelf uprights/dividers.
3. Use a curved template to draw a design onto both the side sections.
4. Position the shelf uprights section onto the back section with the top of the shelf uprights flush with the top edge of the back. Place the side sections at both end, aligning flush with the top and bottom before securing screws.
5. Position the top flush at the back with a 16mm overhang at the sides and front.
6. Apply a layer of wood glue around the inside of the drilled holes and insert the 25mm cut dowels. If you experience any difficulty in fitting, gently tap with a rubber mallet.
Finishing
Fill all screw holes with wood filler and let dry before sanding. Sand all the edges with 180-grit sandpaper and wipe clean. I prefer to paint my projects with a Bosch PFS 65 spray system, but you can use a paintbrush and foam roller if you don't want to invest in a spray system. When using acrylic paints, you can apply the paint directly onto supawood without any wood primer. Use acrylic
paint or waterbased enamel
in your choice of colour.
