Many DIY enthusiasts are not aware of the benefits of using a router table and yet, setting up a router table for your router makes any routing job easier and simpler as well as much faster than using your router the conventional {plunge} way. A router table is also ideal if you like to cut your own mouldings and trim using affordable PAR pine or SupaWood. I have made plenty of trim and mouldings with SupaWood and a table-mounted router setup.

For those of you who don't understand how a router table works, if you don't have a router table when using a router in the conventional sense it is held on top of the workpiece, which is clamped down to prevent movement, and as the router moves around the piece it needs to be unclamped and re-clamped to finish all the edges. When using a router table setup, the router is mounted underneath the router table with only the router bit showing above the router table. With this method you can move the workpiece around easily without any clamping, allowing you the freedom to rout all types of edges.

Woodworking Associations around the world claim that using a router table setup turns a router into one of the most useful tools in a workshop as long as you invest in a router table that offers a sturdy design, adjustable fence, plenty of clearance for a variety of projects and any other bells and whistle you think are necessary.

Over and above the above benefits of using a router table, a router table also lets you handle narrow strips - such as making moulding and trim - that would be impossible to do with a conventional plunge router.

Another beneficial advantage of using a router table is the ability to be able to attach this to your workshop vac system or a freestanding dust collector or extractor to keep your workshop environment clean and free from dust particles.

An adjustable fence on the router table lets you set the cutting width while the router bit can be adjusted up and down and in micro increments for super-fine, precision detail on edges.

With a router table setup, you don't move the router around the workpiece but move the workpiece over the router bit. This gives you more freedom of movement than the conventional router setup.
