Depending on your skill level, you can use a variety of materials to make a secret compartment wall shelf. from pine or reclaimed wood, to bamboo or veneered plywood.
HERE'S HOW:
To make your own basic secret compartment or hidden shelf all you need is some pine planks cut down to the size required for the framed shelf, plus a piece of hardboard or masonite that is secured as the base, and laminated pine shelving and planks for the box.
Assemble the frame for the shelves and then glue on the base, adding a few panel pins for a secure fitting. This section is mounted to the wall using wall plugs, preferably fischer nylon wall plugs, and screws.
The box is made to fit over the frame, allowing a few millimetres all around so that it doesn't get stuck and opens easily. Adding ball bearing drawer runners to the sides of the box and inside the frame allow easy opening.
