DIY crate room divider
You can use a room divider to maximise a small area and create a focal point in your living space. We show you how to make a simple room divider using wooden crates, and that can be completed in three easy steps in about five hours.
Define your living space with an attractive wooden crate room divider and shelf in one. This unit provides ample space to stack books and accessories creatively, and you can use bought or make your own crates for the project.
YOU WILL NEED:
Wooden crates
16mm screws
TOOLS:
Drill / Driver plus assorted bits
Bosch PFS Spray System
Bosch Multi or Orbital Sander plus 120- and 180-grit sanding pads
Drop cloth
Buy all the supplies you need for this project at your local Builders Warehouse.
HERE'S HOW:
1. Where necessary, sand the wood crates using 120-grit for rough wood and then 180-grit to finish off. This will remove any extraneous material on the wood and prepare the surface for the paint application. You will find instructions here for making your own wood crates.
2. Use a Bosch PFS spray system to paint the crates inside and outside with at least two coats of paint. Let each coat dry thoroughly.
GOOD TO KNOW: Put down a drop cloth to cover the painting area beforehand to prevent any accidental paint spillages.
3. Once completed, stack the crates in a design of your choice, making sure that they are balanced properly. Use 16mm screws to secure the crates together.
