In sync with the spirit of the times, Plascon’s annual colour forecast for 2025 includes a new family of neutral colours. These blend bold, enduring tones with soft, subtle hues. Simply called ‘Neutral’, this family of colours is poised to bring pared-back flair to your space.

Plascon’s Neutral family sits alongside three other colour families in the forecast: Bright, Dark and Natural. All four are grouped together under the forecast theme of Hybridity, which invites you to fluidly exercise your personal preferences when it comes to colour.

The Neutral family reflects a refined approach to minimalism through subtle tints that elevate traditional neutrals. It blends subdued natural materials like wood and steel with the hushed hues of non-binary fashion. Shades of beige, grey, mushroom and cream merge the ruggedness of industrial materials with the warmth of organic tones. There are versatile options for a spectrum of design applications - the colours work cohesively as a tonal story or, each colour can stand alone.

Plascon’s 2025 Neutral family draws inspiration from three key design trends that each bring a unique perspective on modern minimalism: Japandi, Agender and Soft Industrial. Japandi blends Eastern and Western aesthetics, celebrating natural materials, timeless craftsmanship and refined simplicity. Agender challenges traditional colour conventions with inclusive, neutral tones that transcend gendered design norms. Meanwhile, Soft Industrial embraces post-brutalist principles, featuring powder-coated hues and honest materials such as concrete, glass and metal, resulting in pragmatic yet stylish interiors. Together, these influences offer a fresh take on contemporary design, prioritising functionality and aesthetic appeal.

This is reflected in the colour family’s neutral-on-neutral tones, barely tinted colours, and the interplay of strength and fluidity. Evening Mist (1) adds an ethereal touch of beach sand, perfect for creating calming and sophisticated environments, while Meadow Yellow (Y4-A2-2), with its gentle warmth, brings a fresh, uplifting feel reminiscent of the first signs of spring. Cream of Mushroom (32), an earthy beige, exudes modest elegance, with identifiable natural fundamentals you might find in a forest (or your fridge).

River Clay (69) is a warm, earthy tone inspired by clay pigments, bringing an organic richness that is at ease in both contemporary areas and classic surroundings. Just as adaptable is Spiced Cider (O6-C2-2), a milky, golden brown with barely-there undertones of deep red, subtly evoking the richness of autumnal hues.

White Night (R7-C2-3) is a lush shade of pale grey blended with mauve. It is markedly pigmented and coolly tapered down to create a serene accent or a feminine trim to contrast with a light or bold palette. Salt Pebble (4) is an even gentler version, perfect for minimalist spaces and modern features. Both colours share a refined, understated elegance. They offer gentle, sophisticated tones that integrate into a range of design styles, from the tranquil to the daring, while adding a calming and cohesive quality.

Combined, the collection feels up-to-date and enduring, providing a sophisticated backdrop for a new wave of interior design. Plascon’s Neutral family captures the essence of new minimalism, with versatility and depth as the golden thread producing an exciting range of design possibilities.
