Houndstooth stencil design

We have seen damask stencils, geometric stencils, chevron stencils, and now it appears that houndstooth stencils are becoming popular for decorating a feature wall. In this project a houndstooth stencil was applied to a feature wall in a little boy's bedroom - with stunning results.

Rebecca has two little boys that are sharing a room.  The space was limited, so she had to be creative in her design for a room that was fun, playful, and filled with pattern and colour. The goal was to give the boy's a room a fun beach themed space.

The beds were made out of timber palettes and with plenty of DIY accents that you see throughout the room. But the space still lacked patterned and colour and that’s when her DIY savvy clicked!  She decided nothing could be better than a bold blue and white Houndstooth pattern painted on an accent wall!

You can buy the stencil online from cutting edge stencils, but at a price of around R600 (including shipping) the costs makes it too expensive for many. If you can't afford to fork out that kind of money, use thick acetate sheeting to make your own stencil using the design below.

The blue and white houndstooth stencil really packs a punch in what used to be a simple white bedroom. To get this look consider using Plascon Double Velvet in Plascon Soft Sail (B2-A2-1), Lime Miss (Y6-A1-2), Splashing Pond (B5-D1-2) and Baccarat (O1-B1-1). This eye-catching modern combination of hues creates a burst of cool, confident colour, perfect for a surfer themed bedroom!

It’s truly a mini surfer’s dream beach pad!  Rebecca says, "This was just the fabulousness I needed to complete the space. The painted houndstooth wall detail is an amazing addition, and the boys love it!"

Not just for a bedroom, you can use a houndstooth stencil in other rooms as well. Check out this dining room with a houndstooth feature wall.
