Home transformation with Plascon Micatex
Charlene and her husband transformed their house exterior with Plascon Micatex before landscaping the front garden.
Plascon Micatex is an extremely durable UV-resistant waterbased coating with a fine texture for weatherproofing exterior walls. It fills existing hairline cracks and prevents future hairline cracks.
This entry into our Bosch Home Improvement Competition shows how Charlene and her husband used Plascon Micatex to transform their newly-bought house from a very old peeling paint-job to a beautiful dune colour.
The concrete windowsills and frames were painted with Plascon Enamel Doors & Trim in high-gloss PWD brown.
When using Plascon Micatex on your home exterior there are a few guidelines that you need to follow:
Remove all loose and peeling paint with a paint scraper or high-pressure spray. After spraying, allow walls to dry completely before painting.
Where paint peels or comes away to reveal plaster or brick finish, cover these areas with a suitable primer before painting.
Any signs of damp need to be treated before painting. Apply Plascon Damp Seal where necessary.
Fill any cracks with exterior Polyfilla and then sand these smooth. If your home has a textured paint finish, use a sea sponge to dab the surface of the Polyfilla before it dries.
Stir the product well before use. You can purchase a mixing attachment that fits onto the end of a drill, that takes all the hard work out of mixing a 25 litre drum of paint.
To apply Plascon Micatex you can use a paintbrush for detail areas and edges, and a medium- to heavy-pile roller for flat surfaces.
Where two coats are necessary, allow sufficient drying times between coats - normally between 1 and 2 hours.
The best time to apply Plascon Micatex is in the late morning or afternoon when there is no chance of rain and an ambient temperature of around 25°C.
Plascon Micatex offers numerous benefits:
- It is UV-resistant – even under the most severe sunlight conditions.
- It protects exterior surfaces against breakdown caused by harsh climatic conditions.
- It waterproofs walls, preventing dampness on interior walls due to driving rain.
- It is reinforced with carefully graded aggregates of mica, mineral quartz, and marble for long-lasting protection, durability and toughness. All colours have a high obliterating power and a high level of light fastness.
- Plascon Micatex not only protects, its even, fine texture also hides minor surface irregularities and disguises repaired areas.
- It effectively fills and bridges hairline cracks, and resists the cracking and crazing associated with more brittle paints.
- It is easy to apply, and leaves at least twice the dried film thickness of conventional paints when used as recommended.
Plascon Micatex comes in a range of colours:
Charlene and her husband also transormed the front yard from being a wasteyard of weeks to an nice garden with pathway made out of old broken Vibacrete Slabs and bricks left over after tearing down the font border wall and rebuilding it with new gates.
