Use colour to add personality to home
Since launching Home-Dzine in 2005, I have converted from decorating with boring beige and brown to using bold colours in my home. Perhaps it was the influence of looking at so many gorgeous and colourful home interiors, or perhaps it was just taking that first step to introduce colour.

You can use paint colour to brighten up any room in a home and combining colours allows you to set the atmosphere and mood for a room. A south-facing bedroom can feel cold and dull, but introduce the right colours and the room instantly warms up and takes on a new personality.
If you love bold colours you'll know that contrasting colours can have a huge impact on any room. Choosing colours from the opposite side of the colour wheel definitely adds personality and wow factor to a plain room.
You can use paint colour to highlight architectural detail or features in a home, or to establish a focal point in a room. Painting a detailed door with colour is a great way to add colour without painting a wall. ABOVE: Walls painted in Plascon Citrus Breeze Y6-A1-4 provide a light, refreshing background for darker accents.
Colours don't need to be bold and bright to inject personality into a room. Muted colours brighten a room and introduce just as much personality as bold colours. In this bathroom the ivory beadboard panelling is paired with a refreshing light shade of green to create a charming space that oozes personality.
Even contrasting earth tones bring interesting contrast to room. An open doorway onto an entrance hall provides the perfect place to introduce a splash of colour. The choice of colour not only adds interest to the entrance, but also adjoining rooms. The darker trim around the doorway also adds extra dimension by framing the view.
Take your colour cues from items or accessories already in the space, or add a total contrast to highlight a feature wall. A plain wall is painted with Plascon Blue Sky B5-A1-4 and squares of white moulding added for a graphic touch.
GOOD TO KNOW
Use the
Plascon Inspired Colour System to help you choose colours for your
decorating project, but make a trip to your local
Builders or
paint store to select your choice of paint colours on swatch cards. The
colours you see on your screen are never true colours, and it is always
best to take colour swatches home with you to view them in the rooms to
be painted.
Use paint colour to add personality to any room in a home, or to create a focal point in a room that lacks atmosphere. You can use paint colours in so many ways to express your personal style.
