Let's take a glimpse at trends happening around the world to see the latest in international decorating and design.

 

ABOVE: Designers worldwide are incorporating greener elements into designed spaces. In this room the fireplace is flue less and is fuelled by denatured ethanol, a renewable modern energy. Upholstery fabrics are 100% cotton or cotton blend and natural bamboo shades serve as minimal, but stylish, window treatments.

ABOVE: Upholstered pieces decked out in neutral fabrics fill this room. With an abundance of natural light flooding the space, and selective use of colour, the designer created a scheme that was soft and pretty, but not overly sweet or feminine. An antique rug and contemporary art add to the air of simple sophistication.

ABOVE: This intimate dining room has the feeling of a space put together over time. Surrounded by shimmering draperies in charcoal silk taffeta, the cocoon-like room features a mix of furnishings from an Art Deco sideboard to contemporary tufted chairs. The result: an informal space with formal flair.

Natural textures, warm tones and unique objects feature prominently as part of today's decor. Overscaled and upcycled furniture are combined to create rooms that are modern and rustic, organic and chic.

ABOVE: For the design of this dining room, aqua is set against a soft neutral backdrop. The Empire-style chandelier custom strung with turquoise beads serves as the crowning jewel. Anchoring the space is a reclaimed wood table topped with a slab of marble, its delicate curves continuing the room’s soft symphony of shapes.

ABOVE: For this Venetian-inspired master bedroom, two magnificent panels of de Gournay wallpaper set in custom bamboo frames offer height that seemingly expands the space.

 

Dazzling gold with just a hint of silver and white to dramatic effect transform this room into a sumptuous living room. One wall is covered with panels of antiqued mirrored glass, adding visual impact and making the room seem much larger. A swoop-armed sofa wears a sumptuous silvery-white linen, while a pair of Hollywood-elegant chairs in a combination of metallic linen add to the drama. A golden sunburst mirror provides the finishing touch.
