7 fun ways to add colour to a room without painting it
There are plenty of ways of injecting colour into a room - without having to use a paintbrush!

There are numerous drawbacks of painting a
room — such as the mess this activity can
generate, as well as the risk that you lose
interest in the colour of the paint applied.
HuffPost acknowledges that “most renters
probably don’t even get to consider this
colourful solution for their white walls,
anyway.” So, what else could you do to inject
fresh colour into a room?
Scatter multi-coloured cushions around the room
“Soft furnishings such as pillows, rugs, and
throws are an easy way of adding living room
colours, instantly changing the look and feel of
a space,”
interior designer Juliette Thomas
tells Livingetc.
She adds that “these can
then be easily updated and swapped whenever you
like, for example from season to season, rather
than committing to wall colour for example.”
Put up some new window dressings
While it’s easy to think of window treatments
in little more than a drably practical sense,
you shouldn’t underestimate the aesthetic merits
of these dressings.
With textured and
coloured window treatments, you can filter
sunlight that enters the home. Meanwhile,
curtains or blinds can help in framing windows.
Lay a rug
You would be surprised by how much you can
achieve with just one rectangular-shaped piece
of fabric — yes, the humble rug. Just one rug
can anchor the layout of a room as well as imbue
it with fresh colour and texture.
You
also have a lot of leeway when it comes to what
colour — or colours — you choose for your rug.
Add a few accent chairs
There are various kinds of accent chairs you
can choose from — including upholstered
armchairs, leather recliners, and hanging
chairs.
If you already have a couch in a
restrained colour, you could add some extra
living room furniture in a more vibrant hue.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with your colour
choices if you want to create especially
eye-catching results.
Buy a mini fridge
Do you love your beverages? Through shopping
online, you can
peruse mini fridges available in
a range of attractive colours — enabling you to
purchase a mini fridge that would visually fit
in with your room.
Homes Guide explains
that mini fridges are also “much easier to move
around than their bulky counterparts, making
them ideal for college dorms or apartments where
space is limited”.
Install some large pieces of artwork
Your living room or bedroom might have a
particular area large enough to accommodate some
artwork that would draw attention for the right
reasons.
Etsy’s resident trend expert
Dayna Isom Johnson has explained as quoted by
HuffPost: “A large painting can be just as
impactful as an accent wall. Choose hues
complementary to your room decor to tie the
colour scheme together.”
Apply tile decals
If re-tiling certain surfaces in your home
would feel like too much of a hassle, why not
consider the alternative method of applying
decals to tiles?
Johnson has enthused:
“Decals are an easy and affordable way to
upgrade your kitchen or bathroom tiles, while
adding a pop of colour to the room.”
