Wire storage baskets are great for storage in a home office, craft or hobby room, or for decorative storage in a home and these wire mesh baskets are fairly easy to make. You can buy a single sheet of wire mesh at Builders or other larger hardware stores to make up a few baskets at the same time.
If you are a home chef and like to bake goodies for your family or friends, these wire baskets can be filled with pretty fabric to show off your home baked goodies. If you love crafts and hobbies, make up several of these wire mesh baskets for all your craft supplies.
YOU WILL NEED:
Wire mesh
Cutting pliers or tin snips
Long-nose pliers
Steel ruler
Thick gloves
Most larger hardware stores stock wire mesh. You can buy a 30 metre roll for under R200, which makes it very affordable for making wire baskets. Shop online for 'wire mesh sheet' at a supplier close to you.

HERE'S HOW:
Step 1
Before you start, work out how large you want your wire mesh basket to be and then allow for this on the size of the base and height of the sides. Start by cutting the mesh into a cross-shape using cutting pliers or tin snips, as shown in the image below. If you have a Dremel Multitool, this is also great for cutting thin wire using a standard cutting disc.
Make sure to have open strands at the end of all sides for locking the sections together.
GOOD TO KNOW
You need long wires on all sides for hooking the sections
together.
Step 2
Using a steel ruler, use this to fold up each of the sides individually until you have the basic shape for your wire mesh basket. The folded sides should be perfectly straight.
Step 3
Use long-nose pliers to bend the long wires at the edges around the corners, to hook into the other section and create the corners for the basket. Press down hard with the pliers to flatten and lock the sections together.
Finishing
Add a fabric liner to your wire mesh baskets and they come in handy for storage anywhere in a home. Use as mini laundry baskets, towel or toilet roll holders. You can also use this method to make attractive storage baskets for a bathroom or laundry to hang this from a shelf or to store items on a shelf.
