Easy to make cushions
Once you discover how easy and affordable it is to make your own scatter cushions, you will also realise how creative you can be. Small pieces of fabric, buttons and embellishments go a long way towards creative unique decor accessories for a home.
Button Heart Cushion
YOU WILL NEED:
Sewing machine and accessories
0,5 metre dark red fabric
Medium assorted buttons
Thread, dark red
Heart template
30cm x 30cm cushion inner

HERE'S HOW:

Cut one piece of fabric 41cm x 41cm for the front panel.

Sew the buttons in place using the heart template as a guide for shape and position 3. Cut two further pieces from the fabric, one at 41cm x 20cm, one at 41cm x 33cm. Pin and machine stitch a hem along one long edge of each piece and press.

Overlap these pieces so that when pinned they form the envelope back of the cushion, measuring 41cm square.

Place the front panel on top of this (right sides together) pin, then machine stitch around the outside.

Snip triangles from the corners to reduce bulk, then remove pins and turn right side out.

Place cushion pad inside cover.
Felt Applique Cushion
You will need:
Sewing machine and accessories
Felt pieces - purple, charcoal, lime green, rose & gold
Cream felt, half a metre
Sequins
Embroidery threads - gold, mulberry & lime
Large purple & red buttons
Medium lime button
30cm x 30cm cushion inner
Here's how:

Cut one piece of cream coloured felt 41cm x 41cm for the front panel.

Use the templates to cut the coloured felt shapes, pin and stitch in place. Sew on sequins, mirror rims and buttons.

Cut two further pieces from the cream coloured felt, one at 41cm x 20cm, one at 41cm x 33cm. Pin and machine stitch a hem along one long edge of each piece and press.

Alphabet Cushion
You will need:
Sewing machine and accessories
0.5m fabric - white
0.5m red floral fabric
Iron On No-Sew
30cm x 30cm cushion inner
Machine thread - white
Here's how:

Cut two 40cm square panels from the white fabric and set one aside.

Draw your chosen initial onto a large piece of paper or card and cut out. Turn the letter over and draw around this shape on the paper side of the Heat 'n' Bond. Cut out outside the line and iron onto the reverse of the floral fabric.

Bond the initial to the centre of the cushion panel with an iron.

Place two panels back to back, pin and machine stitch a seam around three sides 1cm in from the edge.

Insert pad and slip stitch seam closed.
Hints and Tips
Alternatively, you could make an envelope-type back to the panel which overlaps and enables pad to be removed from cover for washing.
