Paint hinges, handles and knobs
Because we have limited options when it comes to hardware - particularly hinges - for DIY furniture projects, it's sometimes necessary to make a plan and paint hinges to match the look or style of a piece being made. Here's how to use Rust-Oleum Universal spray paint for hinges, handles, knobs and other hardware.
Additionally, rusty hinges, locks and handles cabinets, trunks and cases can be given a new lease of life with Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer and Rust-Oleum Universal spray paint in your choice of finish.

HERE'S HOW:
1. Where possible, remove hardware from furniture. If you cannot remove the parts easily without causing damage, leave these in place and carefully mask around them to protect the rest of the object from overspray. Wrapping them with masking tape or tin foil will do.
2. Place the hardware on large sheets of newspaper and give a good cleaning before you spray. A piece of steel wool and dishwashing liquid will suffice. Wipe dry once clean. If there are any traces of rust, apply a light coat of Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer.
3. When this is dry, give the hardware a coat of Rust-Oleum Universal in your preferred colour/, making sure to follow the instructions on the can.
4. When dry, re-attach the parts, or carefully remove masking tape.
Save money and give your kitchen a new look by spray painting door handles in a new metallic shade. We spray out handles with Rust-Oleum Universal Metallic in Titanium Silver.
1. Remove the handles and lightly sand with 180-grit sandpaper to remove any loose paint, rust or grease.
2. Pierce holes in a sheet of cardboard and push the mouting screws through to hold the handles upright while being painted.
3. Spray with Rust-Oleum Universal spray paint by holding the can approximately 30cm from the surface. Spray in a steady back and forth motion, slightly overlapping with each stroke.
4. Apply several light coats a few minutes apart.
