Revamp secondhand bargains

Browsing for bargains on sites such as Gumtree, OLX and Bid or Buy and other online auction sites, is fun - and you are bound to pick up a great buy sooner or later. Being able to revamp secondhand bargains is easy with a can or two of Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint.

Finding secondhand furniture that is still in good condition, and only needs a light sanding and a coat of two of spray paint, can save you a bundle. This child's desk and chair is one of those bargains. Bought for around R250, this could easily cost around R800 and upwards if you bought new.

If possible, but not always necessary, take the furniture apart for sanding and spray painting. For this project, the tops of the desk and chair, as well as the shelves, were not going to be sprayed. If you find it difficult to take apart, cover areas not to be painted with newspaper and masking tape.

You will find all the materials and supplies to revamp secondhand bargains at your local Builders Warehouse, as well as the full range of Rust-Oleum spray paint products. Give furniture a light sanding with 180-grit sandpaper to de-gloss the surface and prepare for painting. Once done, take outdoors and place on a dropcloth, or into a well-ventilated space, and spray with your choice of colour.

After painting, let the paint dry overnight before re-assembling the pieces.
