Faux fur upholstered chair
I absolutely love the new-look chairs upholstered in faux fur. They might not be practical but they sure do add interest to a room. Upholster a single chair in faux fabric and then put on display in your home.
I came across this post on upholstering a chair with faux fabric whilst research for painting upholstered furniture. Compared to the original chair [right], the finished chair just looked so gorgeous that I decided to share this one with you. Yes, I know that some of you may think this is a tacky project, but it's a fun and crafty way to add a unique look to a home.
YOU WILL NEED:
Faux fur
Sharp scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Optional: Paint for the chair arms and legs
HERE'S HOW:
1. Before upholstering the chair do any painting that needs to be done. You can either use acrylic paint or grab a can of Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint in your choice of colour. remember to cover any areas that aren't going to be painted.
2. Cut the fabric to size for the seat and chair back - cut both so that they are one piece. Faux fur is terribly messy when cut, so put down plenty of newspaper to catch the mess. Position the faux fur for best effect, running in the same direction on the seat and back sections. It's better to buy too much than buy too little, and you can always use what's left to make up a nice fluffy cushion for your bed!
3. Starting at the front of the chair seat, start applying hot glue to the edges and immediately put the fur over this. If you have a Dremel Dual-Temp Glue Gun - set on high as this will give you a bit longer to make sure the fabric is positioned right before pressing down onto the glue. Otherwise, place the fur onto the glue before it has chance to cool down.
Each chair is different but, you just start at the front and hot glue, stick, and just continue hot gluing and securing the fur all the way over the back of the chair.
Here's another faux fur upholstered chair project that you can try.
The only difference between this project and the first project is that the seat and back of the chair are cut as separate sections.
