Christmas Greenery - Make It Or Fake It!
Every home should have a touch of festive greenery for holiday decorations and in this article, we look at how to fake it or make it!

I still haven't wrapped my mind about the fact that Christmas is just around the corner. It feels that only yesterday we were all in lockdown and twiddling our thumbs. But Christmas is definitely on the way and now is a great time to think about what decorations you are going to be putting up this year.
I love the scent of pine needles and eucalyptus leaves and these can be found in abundance in most open areas or parks where they won't mind if you pick a stem or two. If you can't be bothered to do that, there's always the options of using faux or fake greenery or making faux eucalyptus fronds using thin wire and grey-green painted paper leaves.
FESTIVE GARLAND AND WREATH
This festive garland and wreath would add the holiday feeling to any room, or you can drape the garland over a staircase and mount the wreath onto your front door. Like we mentioned before, you can fake it with artificial greenery or pop into the garden to source what you need to make it.
YOU WILL NEED :
Fresh pine boughs or eucalyptus branches - or fake it
Embellishments, ornaments and baubles to dress
Ribbons
Thin wire
Hot glue gun
Scissors
OPTIONAL: Add battery-operated LED fairy lights for nighttime ambience
HERE'S HOW:
- Wrap the wire around the fresh or faux greenery to make the circular shape for the wreath - straight for the garland. Make sure that it firmly holds the greenery in place. Tuck in or trim off any irregular pieces.
- If you are adding battery-operated LED lights, position these randomly around and through the greenery.
- Thread thin branches of eucalyptus through the wire and greenery - try to cover up the wire for the LED lights as much as possible.
- Before adding the embellishments make sure to fluff out the greenery until it is nice and full.
- Now you can add your choice of embellishments, using a hot glue gun to secure these onto the garland. Make sure to fill up in the centre and around the edges. The more embellishments you add the more eye-catching the garland.
- Use smaller baubles and ribbons to fill in any remaining gaps.
CHRISTMAS STOCKING FEATURE
If it is tradition to arrange the festive stockings over a fireplace or feature, this pretty decoration will make it even more festive. We added little hand-sewn Christmas tree-shaped decorations that you can easily whip up if you have a sewing machine as well as some beautiful red baubles. Finish off the display with a colourful Christmas stocking.

FESTIVE HANGING WREATH
This natural wreath will add festive flair about an indoor or outdoor dining table, or hang it from the ceiling on your patio or stoep. It's made with eucalyptus sprigs that you can pick from a tree or you can substitute with something more readily available. I prefer to use fresh eucalyptus that brings a wonderful scent into the home. If you prefer - fake it!
YOU WILL NEED:
Eucalyptus sprigs
Thin wire
Assorted tree baubles
Colourful ribbons
Jute rope
Scissors
HERE'S HOW:
Arrange the wire into a circular shape and thread eucalyptus branches throughout to fill up the circular shape. Add overlapping branches to give the arrangement a full look. Make sure it looks good from the top and bottom.
Secure jute rope at [4] equal positions around the circular shape and tie these off at the top. You can add a hook to hang if you wish. Check the length for cutting the jute rope so that the wreath will hang nicely.
Add baubles and ribbon with a hot glue gun. You can add as little or as much decoration as you like.
