Fabric, paper and paint for knobs

To paint pine or plastic knobs, lightly sand with 180-grit before painting and then apply your choice of paint. Choose from acrylic craft paint or chalk paint and then apply 3 to 4 coats of clear acrylic sealer or ModPodge to protect the painted knobs.
GOOD TO KNOW: When wrapping knobs with fabric, secure with an elastic band while you glue onto the knob and coat with clear acrylic sealer or ModPodge. When dry, remove the elastic and trim away excess fabric at the back of the knob. Smooth and cover with clear acrylic sealer or ModPodge.
HOW TO DECOUPAGE
Using decorative paper to cover pine or plastic knobs allows you to choose a pattern that adds to your furniture makeover or update. If you are decorating a children's bedroom, you can select paper that adds to the theme of the room.
When applying decoupage to pine or plastic knobs, lightly sand with 180-grit sandpaper before applying a neutral base coat of paint. The base coat prevents the wood showing through the paper. Leave the paint to dry.
GOOD TO KNOW: If you are going to be doing more than a couple of knobs, make up a board with screws to hold the knobs firm while you work.
Cut the paper to fit over the pine knob, with excess to wrap around the back. Cover the knob with a liberal application of clear acrylic sealer or ModPodge and place the cut paper over this. Gently smooth over with a fingertip to remove any trapped air bubbles and wrinkles. Let the sealer dry and then apply 3 or 4 more coats, allowing drying time between each coat.
