How to Cook Chocolate Cake in an Air Fryer

Air fryers are a great addition to any kitchen and it is a versatile appliance that can speed up your meals while keeping them healthy and cutting down on electrical costs. This countertop appliance is a convection oven that uses hot air circulated at high speed to cook foods and is similar to a convection oven that is used to bake and roast but uses far less energy that a conventional stove and removes the need for fatty oils.

 

 

This affordable kitchen appliances is fast becoming a popular addition to many kitchens and there are so many ways you can use this to cook your favourite foods for family dining, snacks on the go, and even baked goods. With an air fryer you can cook oven chips that are fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside without having to drench them in oil. Ready to try out your air fryer to make this decadent Lancewood chocolate cake? Here's how:

 

 

 

YOU WILL NEED:

 

 

For the Cake:

20 cm cake tin, lined with baking paper

Tin foil

2 large mixing bowl

Spatula

120 g cake flour

125 ml cocoa powder , unsweetened

2.5 ml baking powder

2.5 ml bicarbonate of soda

A pinch of salt

2 large egg(s)

125 ml canola oil

125 ml LANCEWOOD® Low Fat Chocolate Chip Yoghurt or Double Cream Vanilla Yoghurt

5 ml vanilla essence

250 ml castor sugar

90 ml boiling water

 

For the Ganache topping:

80 g milk chocolate

45 ml cream , warm

 

 

 

 

Garnish:

Dark, milk or white chocolate shavings or curls for the top

 

 

HERE'S HOW:

 

Air fryers are not all the same and for this reason you may need to modify the cooking time set the cooking temperature to 160°C.

 

 

 

 

Cake:

  1. In a large mixing bowl sift the cocoa powder and flour and then add baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt and combine these dry ingredients.
  2. In the second mixing bowl combine eggs, oil, yoghurt, vanilla essence and castor sugar and beat.
  3. Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and lightly stir but not too much.
  4. Pour boiling water into the combined mixture and stir until it is a creamy, thin batter. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the mixture into a cake tin lined with baking paper on the base and around the sides. Cover the baking tin with pierced tin foil. This will allow steam to escape.
  6. Put the cake tin in the air fryer basket before baking for 50 to 55 minutes. Test with a skewer that the cake is cooked - the skewer should be clean.
  7. Remove the cake tin from the air fryer and allow to cool for 10 to 15 minutes and then remove the cake from the tin and allow to cool fully.

 

 

 

 

Ganache topping:

Break the milk chocolate and let it melt into the warm cream gently stirring with a spatula until smooth and blended. While still warm, pour the ganache topping over the top of the cake and garnish with dark, white or milk chocolate shavings.
