One of the joys of winter has to be the
feeling of being tucked up in a cosy bed when it
is cold and frosty outside. If your bedroom is a
little chilly, here are some tips to make it a
little warmer without turning up the thermostat
and increasing your household bills.
We spend, on average, 9 hours a day in the
bedroom, so it makes sense to create a warm cosy
space that is a pleasure to be in, especially as
it can help you to relax and get a great night's
sleep. Making your bedroom warmer will not only
help you to stay cosy in bed, but it will also
make getting out in the morning a little less of
a challenge.
Curtains
Curtains can be much more than just something that helps you avoid embarrassment with your neighbours! Well-lined curtains can be a great way to keep the heat in the room and the drafts out. You can either buy ready-lined curtains or add linings to curtains you already have. This double-thickness of material will help you retain the room's heat and keep the room warmer. Close the curtains in the early evening to retain any heat created during the day by the sun and keep the room cosy.
Bedding
It is tough to get to sleep if you are chilly. During the winter, it may be time to increase the heat a little on your bed with some decent bedding. You can add a throw or blanket to your existing bedding. Or if your duvet has seen better days, invest in a new duvet, which is guaranteed to keep you cosy on even the coldest nights. Choosing a quality duvet to work with your body, keeping you warm without overheating, is advisable. The bamboo duvet from Panda London is made from silky soft natural bamboo fibres and will keep you wrapped in luxurious warmth to give you a restful night's sleep.
Add a rug
Getting out of bed onto a cold floor is never a great start to the day. A thick rug can offer a soft, cosy landing for your toes and give your room that warm feel. It will also act as a brilliant draft excluder, preventing drafts and cold from the floor and making the room feel cold.
Banish those drafts
Drafts from windows, and doors, can significantly reduce a bedroom's temperature and are unpleasant to be near. Check windows and doors for drafts and, if possible, seal them. A draft excluder is an excellent option if you have a draft coming under the door. They can be bought, or if you are good at sewing and crafts, you could make one yourself.
Move the bed away from the window.
If your bed is by a window, it can be lovely in the summer but chilly in the winter. If possible, move your bed away from the window for the winter. This move may not make the actual bedroom any warmer, but it will help you to feel warmer in bed.
Keep radiators clear
In the winter, it can be tempting to dry
washing on the radiators, especially in the
bedrooms, as it is out of sight a lot of the
time. However, this can reduce the effectiveness
of the radiators, reducing the room's warmth.
When the temperatures take a
downturn and winter is upon us, the need to
feel
cosy and stay warm increases. These simple tips
will help make your bedroom a comfortable,
relaxing space, perfect for resting and
recharging, ready for the busy day ahead.
