Add a headboard to your bed

What size headboard?
While you may have enough space for a king sized bed, fitting a headboard that is too tall and the space will appear smaller. Try and keep the proportions of your bedroom in mind when choosing a headboard. The larger the room, the larger the headboard can be without swallowing up the room, visually.
The headboard should be slightly wider - about 5cm on each side - than the width of the bed and be as high as you would like. The higher the headboard - the more dramatic the impact. Some people prefer the shorter, average sized headboard while others prefer taller, more exaggerated headboards for a bigger overall effect. Make sure you take good measurements for both width and height of your bed before you go shopping for a new headboard.

Will it be plain or tufted?
Creating a tufted headboard isn't quite as simple as a plain padded headboard, but it's not that difficult, either. Of course, if you find yourself equipped with two left thumbs, the obvious choice would be to have the headboard custom manufactured to your requirements.
What type of fabric?
With so many fabric choices, it's important to make the right choice for the room. Plain, neutral fabrics will obviously fit with any room style where large, bold patterns need to complement the existing decor.
Choosing the right design
Adding a new headboard is one way to quickly and easily update the look of a bedroom. Headboards are made from many different materials such as leather, wrought iron, and wood just to name a few so there's no limit to the new looks you can create. Do you want a padded headboard or would you prefer one made of wood?
A solid wood headboard is perfect for a traditional bedroom but can be extremely pricey depending upon the type of timber used.
For a modern and contemporary feel, consider an upholstered headboard finished in trendy fabrics, or choose a more sedate fabric for a look that offers charm and a more feminine look.
