Decorating ideas for a girl's bedroom

Decorating a bedroom for a little girl is such an exciting project to take on and I love browsing through beautiful images of bedrooms that would be perfect for a little lady.

Decorating a bedroom for a little girl is such an exciting project to take on. Choosing a colour scheme, selecting the right furniture, picking out decor accessories and then putting it all together. With two grown boys I never really had the chance to experience the joy of decorating a bedroom for a little girl, but I still love browsing through beautiful images of bedrooms that would be perfect for a little lady.

Casual and Comfortable

Shades of pale pink, muted green and white are pretty colours for decorating a little girl's bedroom. White furniture not only makes a small room appear visually larger, it's also the perfect colour to fit in with any other colours that you select for the room.

- You have the option to make your own furniture, buy ready-made furniture, or have it custom made. I haven't previously made a sleigh-bed design, but will definitely be looking at this for a future project. If you have previously tackled a sleigh bed, I would love to see pics.

- Window treatments are fairly simple to make, as is a Roman blind. Choose your own fabric and sew up a blind, topped off with simple side drapes.

- A simple striped wall treatment above wall panelling or wainscoting adds a colourful effect and architectural detail to a plain room.

- Add a personal touch with beautifully framed wall art to co-ordinate with the theme of a bedroom.

Traditionally Timeless

Pretty in pastel shades with pink, green, lilac and magenta against a neutral off-white backdrop. Dark, vintage reproduction furniture is painted with Rust-Oleum gloss enamel spray in blossom white to provide a finish that is durable and easy to clean.

- Paint easily transforms dark, vintage furniture into light, modern pieces that are more suitable for a little girl's bedroom.

- Get craft with fabric and a sewing machine to make your own colourful bedding with quilts or rag quilts.

- Making a pouf or ottoman is a quick and easy solution for a little girl's bedroom and it can be finished in your choice of fabrics to match with room decor.

Modern Magic

What little girl wouldn't love a bedroom decorated in trendy colours. Teal, magenta and pastel colours combined with modern furniture and fashionable accessories create this modern bedroom setting.

- Making furniture with SupaWood allows you to be creative. SupaWood is available in sheets ranging from 3mm- up to over 30mm-thick and can be easily cut to size at your local Builders Warehouse. SupaWood can be painted with Plascon Velvaglo for a washable finish that can take everyday knocks.

- Add detailing, such as that shown above, by cutting PVC pipes on a mitre saw. These are then glued on with epoxy glue.
