You can find local manufacturers who will design custom beds in a variety of styles. Companies such as Design-A-Bed manufacture beds to order and you can choose to have the bed painted in your choice of colour.

If you are lucky enough to stumble upon a vintage bed, you can easily paint this in your choice of colour. Sand down any rough edges and make any repairs before painting. After sanding to remove old paint or varnish. wipe with a cloth lightly dampened with mineral turpentine to get rid of any dust.
Use a low-sheen PVA paint to apply both the base or primer and main coats. Bear in mind that darker colours will require more paint. To apply paint you can use a paintbrush, foam roller, Bosch PFS spray system, or apply Rust-Oleum matt or satin spray paint.
Embellishments and designs can be added or painted onto the bed using stencils. Stencils can be downloaded for free from many websites or your can make your own custom stencils.
