Multi-purpose nursery furniture

When I saw this nursery furniture designed by Dutch design firm Teehee, I realised the potential of making this as a DIY project using birch-veneered plywood. While you may not be able to buy this unique design here in South Africa, there's no reason you can't make your own.

Teehee designed nursery furniture that can be converted to other uses, so the furniture adapts as your child grows. The Illeta crib shown here can convert from a crib into a toddler's bed, while on the other side it has changing table, storage cabinets and a hanging rail for clothes or a baby mobile. The multi-purpose design would be perfect for a small nursery.

 

 

Designed with longevity and flexibility in mind, the Illeta crib converts into a toddler bed that can also be used as seating, well beyond the nursery years. It is equipped with a spacious cabinet to storage clothes, toys and much more.

 

 

 

 

 

As your child grows, the crib can easily be converted into a toddler bed simply by removing the front face. If you prefer to have a safety side at the front, the front face can be cut down and mounted to the bed until your child is older. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Made from birch-veneered plywood, this design is simple to replicate if you have the sides and curved sections cut by a CNC (laser) cutting machine. There are plenty of companies around the country that are willing to do this for you. Of course, if you are prepared to put in the time and effort, you could also cut these sections using a jigsaw.

 

 

 

The Illa nursery system is designed with longevity and flexibility in mind. The crib converts into a toddler bed that can also be used as seating, while a low table has multiple uses, including changing table, desk and bench.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All nursery furniture in the Teehee range is manufactured of eco-friendly and sustainable veneered plywood and can be finished with natural oil or left in its natural state.
