When you have kids, you want to make sure that their bedroom is their safe haven.

When you have kids, you want to make sure that their bedroom is their safe haven. The place they long to go back to, to relax, study, play and run away from reality. It’s the place that they will remember fondly when they get older and remember the good times in their lives. So it’s extremely important that we make it as personalized as possible to their whims and fantasies.

Sometimes, if you don’t have an idea, or enough cash, it’s really not that farfetched to go ahead and make some of these things yourself! It’s fun and it’s also a great bonding experience for you and your little ones. You’d be surprised by the surplus of wonderful ideas out there.

Let’s go over a few, just to get the ball rolling for you!

ROLLING BOOKSHELF

This is such a brilliant idea because it looks cool, original, and is extremely practical. All you need to do is get an old side table or drawer and remove the drawers, give it a paint job to your liking, and then attach an old skateboard or the wheels of an old skateboard to it. This is really cool because the kids can take their bookshelf anywhere with them in the house, and rearranging the room will be a breeze too.

STUFFED ANIMAL STORAGE IDEAS

There isn’t a single household in the world that has kids that don’t have an overwhelming amount of stuffed toys taking up an incredible amount of space. That’s why there are a bunch of DIY stuffed animal storage ideas to pick from - and they’re all really cool!

- Hammock: Get an old hammock or any kind of material and create a little hammock in any corner of the room to gather all the stuffed toys in.

- Crate: There are a ton of different ideas in which crates can be used for storing toys

- Wall storage: Making cardboard circles and creating colorful holes in the walls to store the stuffed animals is another way to store and save space at the same time.

DRAWING CHANDELIER

This is a great DIY idea for both girls and boys alike. Remember the mobile you had over their cots when they were little babies? Now you can all sit together and create one on a much larger scale with everything they love, drawn by them!

THE SKY

It’s always a very smart idea to give an outdoorsy feel to a room so that the kids don’t feel suffocated and get a sense of freedom as well. Anything associated with the sky within the decor can actually do wonders.

- Moon in my room: You can either invest in a moon night light or make one yourself with a printout and a backlight.

- Clouds wallpaper: Grab a couple of brushes and white paint and go ahead and draw some clouds on the wall! You could even add a bit of cotton to give it a more 3-dimensional feel.

- Cloud shelves: Using cardboard cut out in the shape of clouds and covering the shelves with it looks pretty awesome.

- Glow in the dark: You can get tons of glow in the dark stars and decorate the walls and ceiling with them.

- Starry night: You can poke holes in an old lampshade or make one yourself, put on top of a bulb and create a really cool starry night with constellations on your ceiling and walls!

WALL ART

A DIY project and a child's room is incomplete without some good old original art pieces from the little one themselves. There are endless ideas that you can come up with for the walls.

-Melted Crayons: Get a canvas, or create one by gluing paper onto cardboard, and then glue on some crayons next to each other. Then get your hairdryer and have the kids go ahead and give them a good melt! Hold the canvas upright and voila! A beautiful drippy work or art, frame it and hang it on the wall.

-Tree: Draw a life-size tree on the wall and have your kids fill the branches with their own ideas of drawings or hand prints-the options are endless and it will look amazing.

-Paper curtain: Remember those funky bead curtains from the ’70s? It’s time to educate your kids! This is easy and fun, and you can use a whole bunch of different materials. Beads, felt shapes, paper cutouts, tiny trolls, toy cars, the possibilities are endless!

-Art gallery: Buy or make a bunch of different picture frames, decorate, and then spend a good full day drawing and creating pictures to put in those frames to have your very own fancy kid's art gallery.

PING PONG LIGHTS

This is really fun!

Get a bunch of ping pong balls and Christmas lights. Make holes in the balls and place them over the light to give a really good effect that you can place over the door or around the kids’ beds.

PERFORMANCE CORNER

For those rainy days where the kids have to spend hours indoor, you can have a corner to puppet shows or create a small stage with curtains and a mic so that the kids can put on performances.

The possibilities are endless!

Just like a child's imagination, the options and the variety of things that you can do with the kids at home to make their space more magical are endless! If you don’t have ideas, the internet is a wonderful place, overflowing with ideas from creative minds from all over the world!
