Tips for a well designed bathroom
As one of the top home improvements that offer a return on your investment, planning and undertaking a bathroom renovation or improvement, or even installing a new bathroom, needs to be planned well and designed with attention to detail.
When designing a bathroom, take the time to putting a lot of thought into what you like and what you want in the new bathroom is the first step in a successful, well designed bathroom. Because of the cost of a major bathroom renovation, you may want to think about hiring a designer to assist with the process.
The world of tiles, plumbing, fixtures, countertops and lighting loses it’s charm when you have to start crunching numbers - and I don’t mean figuring out how much things cost! Calculating how much materials and supplies are needed for a tile design that has several different tile sizes and shapes in it can be confusing at best, and an expensive mistake if it was miscalculated.
This is where using the services of a designer comes into play. Most designers have done it all before and can bring the fun back into a project. They can also ensure that you don't order to little - or pay for too much of what is needed for the project.
In the bathroom installation shown here, the homeowners already had a good idea in mind of what they liked and wanted in the room. Taking the next step, however, was one they knew required assistance from someone who could offer advice, draw up a plan and put together a budget.
Doing a project of this nature on your own involves a lot of running around. By using the services of a designer, they assist in putting together plans, collecting samples of tiles, fixtures, countertop styles, etc., and generally looking at options for you. So essentially, they do all the running around and leave the final selection up to you.
The owners of this bathroom have very modern, simple taste but do not want things to feel too sterile. The finished bathroom offers a balance between modern finishes and products but in warmer tones of brown, taupe and a less stark white.
Satin finishes for the fixtures and a balance of smaller mosaic tiles, coupled with oversized field tiles in the shower, keep the eye interested but not distracted. It's also important to try and have one element that is a real stunner, something that gives the room it’s "wow" factor. In this bathroom it's the high end sink fixtures that really take your breath away.
So, the trick to a well designed bathroom is to have obvious show stoppers, subtle layers of added dimension and a balanced variety of textures, finishes and layers.
