YOU WILL NEED:

18mm Supawood (MDF)

Alcolin wood glue

Paint

12mm cut screws

180-grit sandpaper

Jigsaw

Multi Sander

Tape measure

Drill/driver and bits

Paintbrush, foam roller and paint tray

HERE'S HOW:

1. Before building the new doors, it is important to remove the old doors and use it as a template to get the correct size. Begin by unscrewing the hinges attached to the door. It is not necessary to remove the part of the hinge attached to the inside of the vanity cabinet since those will be reused. Once the door is off, grab a tape measure and determine the length and height of the old door.

2. Cut the new door structure out of 18mm Supawood - or get your local hardware store to cut the board to size. Cut two sets of everything - for the doors and the raised panels.

3. Measure a border around all the panels and cut out the centre section. Use an 8mm drill bit to bore out a hole to allow for the insert of the jigsaw blade. Sand around the cut edges with 180-grit sandpaper

4. Lay the doors on a flat surface. Place a moderate amount of wood glue on the back of one the panels and fit it onto the top of the board face. Don't worry if there's a slight overlay or profile showing because the edges will be sanded down once everything's in place.

5. Use a sander to chamfer the edges, which provides a smooth and even surface that is ever so slightly rounded.

6. Pour some paint of your choice into a paint tray and grab a paintbrush and roller. It will be easier to paint the space within the frame with the paintbrush to make sure to cover all the edges. For a unique look, rolling paint onto the raised panels gives it a contemporary, textured feel. Be sure to paint the underside of the door once the paint dries so that no moisture seeps in and warps the wood.

7. After the paint has dried fully, attach the door to the vanity. Hold the door up to the existing hinge and be sure it fits nicely when closed. Secure the door to the original hinge with screws and the old vanity has a new look.
