Unique makeover for a toilet seat!
Nina Green - our West Rand DIY Diva - is always looking for unique ways to dress up and makeover areas of her home. In this project she shows you how to makeover a toilet set - just for a fun accessory in a bathroom!
Anyone who knows Nina will confirm that she has more than a few quirky ideas up her sleeve! If you're looking for a new way to add a personal touch to a bathroom, this decorative toilet seat will definitely more than oblige.
YOU WILL NEED:
Supawood Toilet seat
Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint - beige
Ready-mixed Polyfilla
Wood glue
Kitchen fork
Sheet of mosaic tiles
Rust-Oleum polyurethane spray varnish
Router
Sander plus 120- and 180-grit sandpaper
Stencil (Bushmen) and stencil brush
Prominent Paints satin - chocolate brown

HERE'S HOW:
1. Remove the hinges of the toilet seat and put one side.
2. Sand down the whole toilet seat with 120-grit paper lightly just enough to take of the shine off the toilet seat
3. Paint the whole toilet seat with the beige spray paint. Spray lightly from a distance of not less than 30cm away from the surface to avoid runs.
4. Mark out the line where you will be putting the tiles. Router the line out to half the debt of the tile width. Place the tiles in the routered groove it they fit remove put some wood glue in the groove and stick down the tiles.
5. On the one side of the line take some Polyfilla and cover the whole area about 1mm thick. Now take a fork and draw the lines into the Polyfilla with the fork. Leave to dry completely.
6. Paint the Polyfilla with brown paint - apply the paint thick and afterwards use a rag to lightly wipe some of the paint off.
7. On the other side of the line take your stencil and stencil the images with a stencilling brush and brown paint. Let dry
8. Spray three coats clear varnish over the whole seat, allowing drying time between each coat.
9. Re-attach hinges and fit seat back onto toilet.
