Making a duckboard for the bathroom is ideal for drying off after a hot shower or relaxing bath, and it's easy to make a duckboard using PAR pine that you can buy at any Builders Warehouse. The duckboard shown here measures 400 x 800mm but you can make a custom size to fit into your own bathroom. You can also make one for the shower and one for the bathtub.
YOU WILL NEED:
22 x 44 PAR pine cut to the required lengths
Scrap wood for spacers
Waterproof wood glue
Brads or panel pins
Supplies to finish
TOOLS:
Pneumatic brad nailer or hammer
Tape measure and pencil
Sander or Router with round-over bit
HERE'S HOW:
1. Use a router and round-over bit to round off the edges on all the slats. If you don't own a router, you can easily do this just as well with a sander and 120-grit sanding pads. After rounding off the edges, sand smooth with 240-grit sandpaper.
2. Lay out and arrange the planks on your workbench. You will also need an additional 3 pieces of PAR pine for the supports for your duckboard.
3. Apply a bead of wood glue at each join before securing the supports onto the back of the slats with brad nails or panel pins.
Finishing
Protect your finished duckboard with oil, sealer, paint or varnish to your own preference.
