Danville Primary School, Mahikeng was the site of the unveiling of the first multipurpose sports field in the region. Made possible by Builders, SuperSport, Hitachi and Active Education, the new sports field brings a world of possibility to the youth of Mahikeng who will now be able to participate in a range of sports from soccer, hockey and netball.
The launch brought together parents, learners and community members. After the ribbon cutting the new pitch was put to the test with a soccer match that saw media personalities such as TT Mhba, David Kekana, Thami Mgqolo and Zola Hashatsi losing against Danville Primary School team by 7 – 1.
The investment in all forms of education are a tenet of the Builders CSI philosophy. It forms part of a commitment with SuperSport’s Let’s Play initiative launched in 2015 and aimed at providing sporting facilities for schools that excel in sport but lack the infrastructure and resources to enhance their ability. Hitachi levelled the ground before construction of the field and Active Education offer training and enhanced coaching skills for local coaches.
“The excitement here today is palpable. We have already seen the skill and talent on display by these youngsters and have no doubt that this sports field will lay the foundation for continued growth and development in all areas of sport,” said Andre Steyn, Marketing and Innovations director at Builders “We’d like to thank the partners for this much-needed intervention”. Danville Primary School is the 9th school to receive a new sports field and the first in 2018, but this will not be the last. The 10th sports field will be launched later this year; details will be revealed in due course.
