The Institute for Timber Construction South Africa (ITC-SA), South Africa’s professional body for the engineered timber construction sector, has partnered with the KZN Construction Expo, which takes place from 20-21 February 2019 at the Durban Exhibition Centre, to highlight timber construction information and expertise to the province.
The KZN Construction Expo, which was launched in 2017, is the only dedicated expo for KwaZulu-Natal’s built environment and focuses on trade engagements through free practical training, CPD-accredited workshops, live product demonstrations and networking.
According to Amanda Obbes, ITC-SA General Manager, “The ITC-SA has a strong national footprint and represents many members in KwaZulu-Natal, which is home to an historic legacy of timber construction. Our community of members in the province and its discerning consumers represent an integral part of the Institute’s mandate to create and maintain high standards in the engineered timber construction sector today.” She notes, “It is thus especially critical for the Institute to partner with innovative local events like the KZN Construction Expo, which not only provides a platform for exhibitors to showcase their offerings, but a dynamic setting for industry and consumers to learn, network and establish connections.”
What to expect from the ITC-SA on show:
The ITC-SA will be exhibiting at the KZN Construction Expo, where visitors can meet with KZN Regional Representative, Nicky Naidoo, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the built environment, and learn more about all facets of timber frame construction, roofing and decking in South Africa.
Workshop attendees will be hearing from ITC-SA Timber Frame Builder Member, Peter Bissett, as he delivers a workshop on the intricacies of Timber Frame Housing on 20 February. Bissett holds a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering, is the Managing Director of Cottage Concepts and a Director on the Board of the ITC-SA.
ITC-SA Engineer Member, Gavin Brown, Registered Professional Engineer in Civil and Structural Engineering and Hydraulic Design, will be presenting a workshop at the expo on Timber Roof Compliance on 21 February. Brown is also a qualified Project Construction Manager, a Senior Professional Architectural Technologist and holds an NQ57 in Design and Supervision of Labour-Intensive Construction.
With close to 3000 attendees expected, ranging from small contractors to architects, quantity surveyors, property developers, government and industry associations, the KZN Construction Expo not only fosters infrastructure investment, but is set to boost capacity for local construction professionals through free educational and technical skills development via its training workshops.
“Local industry, students in the field, consumers and anyone interested in learning more about construction are encouraged to attend the KZN Construction Expo and immerse themselves in the innovations on offer as well as the unique learning environment that has been fostered by its organisers,” says Obbes, concluding, “The KZN Construction Expo is heavily invested in the promotion of a better built environment for all in the province and the ITC-SA is proud to partner with a show whose vision for the future of construction in South Africa is well aligned with its own.”
