Children have an inexhaustible supply of energy which fuels their body to perform multiple activities during the day. To be able to produce the energy they require, children need ample time to rest and sleep multiple times a day, surpassing the eight-hour requirement for adults. Most of the time, due to the multitude of environmental stimuli and stressors present around them, their sleeping patterns get disrupted and messed up. This is one of the woes parents all over the world go through every day.
Since most parents experience difficulty with lulling their children to sleep, they seek medications to help deal with the problem. This will only solve the problem at face value but it does not target the roots and most importantly, it is not appropriate for their age. Natural remedies are most recommended for them.
Exhaust Their Energy
This is a solution most children would love to participate in: engaging in more physical activities that will use up their energy throughout the day. Have them exercise by running around an open space and doing some kiddie sports that increase the temperature in their body which helps them fall asleep later on. When they rest after their activities, their bodies relax in preparation for sleep. The easiest people to put to sleep are tired children. This is actually advantageous for them because of all the exercises that aid their physical development.
Pull Some Tricks
Luckily for us, children are gullible to simple tricks. You can take this to your advantage by pulling some to get them to sleep or stay asleep for longer periods of time. Touch is a very powerful trick. When babies and children feel the heaviness of their parent's touch, they feel secure which leads them to surrender themselves to sleep completely. You get to observe this in children when their parents leave them by themselves, they suddenly wake up in the middle of the night crying. The pressure is an assurance for them that someone is keeping them company.
When it is not possible to accompany children all throughout, use a child weighted blanket which mimics the pressure they feel from a caregiver. It serves like a comforting hug that envelopes their body which can be used as you build sleeping routines for your children. This is a great tick that helps them stay in bed peacefully for longer hours.
Music Therapy
The old lullabies are great natural sleep inducers for children. It does not only relax children but stimulates their brain development too by trickling their sense of hearing. Sing your child some songs because your voice is a comfort to their ears or play some classical music softly in the background as their white noise.
Working with children as they build good sleeping habits at a young age is a task that can be done with creative and natural strategies. As you help them get the sleep they need, you get to bond with them more, provide their needed love and security while helping them in their development. Every parent and child can benefit from all these simple tricks and remedies.
