Builders is growing, and on the 30th
June 2022 they officially opened doors to their
new store situated in Rossburgh, Durban. As part
of the celebrations, the new store in Rossburgh,
Durban, is partnering
with HOPE worldwide South Africa to support
House Kids Educare Centre, an early childhood
development (ECD) centre in Ezimbokodweni,
Amanzimtoti. The centre was affected by the
floods that took place in Kwa-Zulu Natal earlier
this year.
“At Builders, we’ve
always been interested in providing new builds,
infrastructure upgrades, and in some instances,
new equipment as required by various schools
through our CSI initiatives. As a brand, we are
passionate about education and ensuring that
learners have access to basic resources and a
safe learning environment,” says Munier Solomon,
Senior Marketing Operations Manager at Builders.
“With the new store opening, we hope to be even
more accessible to our customers. We want to
ensure that the community which the store is
located in, benefits from our store through our
SUCCEED partnership and programme,” adds Munier
Solomon
With the partnership being
managed through the SUCCEED program whose
objective - together with Hope Worldwide South
Africa and Massmart, and Builders stores - is to
assist. SUCCEED has a goal of assisting Early
Childhood Development Centres in meeting the
government norms and standards. This also
ensures that learners enjoy a safe learning
space and that they have access to appropriate
learning resources while restoring the
confidence of the communities. Builders,
together with SUCCEED partners, are contributing
towards House-Kids Centre by providing the
following:
- Improving hygiene and
sanitation by refurbishing the bathrooms:
including installing new basins, toilets,
fittings and fixtures
- Enriching the
learning environment by Revamping the
classrooms, replacing ceilings, re-tiling and
repainting and providing additional tables and
chairs
- Promoting learner development by
providing specific educational toys Including
Lego Boxes
- Increasing access to adequate nutrition provided nutritional groceries in partnership with KFC.
“The House-Kids Educare Centre is located in a semi-rural area in the upper south of Durban with high levels of poverty, unemployment. The facility serves over 259 children daily. It provides them with stimulating programs, education, nutrition and social services. It has been running for 12 years and has a dedicated staff which demonstrates its sustainability,” says Hazel Sengani, Project Manager at HOPE worldwide South Africa.
The flooding and
mudslides that took place in the KwaZulu-Natal
province not only destroyed the homes of the
community but also destroyed schools, denying
learners access to education or basic learning
resources. The opening of the new store is a
showcase of confidence in KwaZulu-Natal, and
this is only the beginning of what the SUCCEED
programme aims to do for the community of
KwaZulu Natal.
