5 Benefits of Attic Insulation
It turns out insulating your attic has a bunch of different benefits, other than keeping your old high school trophies warm and cozy.

If you’re looking at revamping your
home, the last thing you want to think about (or
spend money on) is attic insulation. While
insulation sounds like a really nifty, useful
idea for rooms you actually live in, what’s the
sense in paying to insulate a room where you
just store old junk?
Well actually,
that’s what we’re here to talk to you about – it
turns out insulating your attic has a bunch of
different benefits, other than keeping your old
high school trophies warm and cozy.
So why should you consider insulating your attic?
1. It actually helps you save money in the long run
Think about it. While the extreme temperature
in your attic might not seem like it’s impacting
you directly, you are actively spending money
either to cool or heat up the house. And why do
you have to do this? Because the attic isn’t
properly insulated, and as such, it’s letting in
coo/hot air.
By having your attic
insulated, you may start saving some money on
your energy bills, since good insulation will
keep your home warm for longer during the
winter, and vice-versa for the hot months. Not
insulating your attic is like putting on a coat,
but leaving the front door open – wouldn’t it
just be easier to close the door, and not let
the cool air in?
2. It can deter nuisance wildlife from invading your home
The last thing you want to have to deal with
is a nuisance wildlife infestation, obviously.
And yet, by not replacing old, moldy insulation,
you may be inviting an infestation into your own
home.
Here’s the thing, a nice layer of
new insulation, especially one that’s designed
to deter pests, can make all the difference
between a pest-ridden and a wildlife-free attic.
And it’s not just the attic, because once
they’re up there, they’re making their way into
the rest of the home.
If you’re worried about nuisance wildlife
living in your old insulation, ask
wildlife
control professionals for help as soon as
possible.
3. It makes your attic livable
Obviously, one of the drawbacks to an attic home office, or extra bedroom is that, since the attic isn’t insulated, it would be too cold (or too hot) to live in comfortably. But by insulating the attic walls and roof, you are essentially gaining an extra room for your home, to do with as you please. Though do bear in mind, if planning a home renovation, to consult with local building regulations beforehand.
4. Improves air quality
Another big issue to consider is the kind of
pollutants that are entering your home from the
air outside. Every day, you’re letting in air
that’s riddled with dirt, mold, smoke, and other
polluting elements.
Now, that’s exactly
what a layer of insulation can prevent. By
creating an effective barrier between the
outside world and your home, you’re practically
putting up an air filter, to sift out the nasty
pollutants that are weighing down the outside
air and keep them from getting inside your
home.
5. It stops the air from leaking out
Not only does insulation keep the “bad” air elements out, it also keeps air inside the home. Not many homeowners realize this, but you may actually be losing a lot of the heating your AC is pumping into your home because of poor insulation. This allows the hot air to leak out of the house, instead of keeping you warm, and forces you to use up more heating, more energy, and more money. Insulating the attic seals the house, keeping the hot air inside, nice and compact.
