If you are looking for an apartment, you may also be considering whether to buy a furnished, partially furnished, or unfurnished apartment. As Paradise Property Management Team says, each type of furnished apartment has its positives and its negatives.

How do you know which one to choose? It all depends on your needs and wants. If you need to save money on moving, you might get a furnished or partially furnished apartment. If you want to bring the bed you’ve been using for years and is comfortable, you might want to get a partially furnished or unfurnished apartment.

Here is our guide to the three basic types of furnished apartments.

Furnished Apartments

Furnished apartments come with everything. From washers and dryers to glassware and silverware, a furnished apartment comes with a set of furniture, appliances, and utensils, plus other bonuses. Our favorite example of a furnishing is smart home technology.

The advantages here are clear. First, it saves money on moving. With moving costs on the rise and being charged by the pound, you can save money by not having to move your appliances and furniture.

Second, it’s convenient. It is wonderful to be able to have your furniture and appliances ready for you on moving day. You will not have to move and set up your furniture and appliances because they will already be in your apartment waiting for you.
The final advantage is that the landlord will maintain what he provides. If your washer and dryer have an issue, call the landlord. If your dishwasher won’t work, call the landlord. If your furniture breaks, call the landlord. It’s very easy and most maintenance will be done on site.

The disadvantages are harder to spot. First, the rent will be higher. This is because the higher rent presumably includes the cost of furniture and appliances. So, while you will save money on moving, you will also have to pay more in rent.

Second, the set of furniture and appliances are not flexible. This means that if you do not like the set of furniture you have, you cannot get rid of it. The same hold true for the appliances and utensils.

The final disadvantage is that you will be at the mercy of the landlord. It sometimes takes a long time for the landlord to schedule maintenance or hire someone who can help you. If these disadvantages do not matter to you, then a furnished apartment may be right for you.

Partially Furnished Apartments

As the name states, partially furnished apartments mean that the apartment does not have all the furnishing that a fully furnished apartment may have. For instance, while a fully furnished apartment may have a washer and dryer, a partially furnished apartment may have a laundry room but no washer and dryer.

The advantages and benefits are harder to spot, but there are pronounced. For example, you will still save money on moving certain appliances and furniture. The less furniture and appliances you need to move, the more you will save.

Second, it is still more convenient than having to set everything up on moving day. For the appliances and furniture that is included, you will have them already set up. You will also not have to buy more furniture.

Finally, you will have some flexibility in terms of what appliances you bring to the home decor. You will be able to bring some furniture as well. For instance, in our example, you could choose what kind of washer and dryer you bring to the partially furnished apartment for rent.

Unfurnished Apartment

Like the name implies, an unfurnished apartment has no furnishings. You will have to provide all of furniture and appliances that are not normally included, such as a stove/oven unit and a refrigerator. There are many advantages to getting an unfurnished apartment as well.

First, the rent will be lower. This is because there are no appliances or furniture to include in the rent. You bring your own up to and including a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and all furniture.

Second, you will have maximum flexibility. If you have a set of appliances or furniture that you absolutely love, you can bring it with you. The same is true for your television, dishwasher, etc. You will also be able to set the apartment up the way you want it as opposed to keeping it the way the landlord had it set up.

Third, except for plumbing, electrical issues, and the provided appliances, you will be in charge for the maintenance of all your appliances and furniture. This means that you will not be beholden to the landlord’s schedule and instead you can get things repaired on your schedule.

There are also many disadvantages to getting an unfurnished apartment. First, you will not save any money on moving costs. This means that if you are going to move, then you will be charged for the full weight of your furniture and appliances.

Second, if you do not move the furniture and appliances from your own home, you will have to go out and buy them. This will also cost a lot of money when combined with the moving costs to begin with.

Finally, there will be no bonuses waiting for you when you move in. There will be no additional furniture or appliances that will save you money, no smart home technology, and no air conditioning units. You are starting from scratch.

Conclusion

Unfurnished, partially furnished, and furnished apartments have their benefits and disadvantages. Unfurnished apartments have no bonuses included. Partially furnished apartments have a few bonuses included. Finally, furnished apartments have the maximum bonuses included. Using this guide, you will be able to tell if a furnished apartment is right for you.
