Removing stains is always an issue for a household. Imagine wearing your favorite clothes and getting a stain on it, or getting ready for an event and then smudging stains on your suit. Whether it’s your or someone in your family is the one who will wash it, guaranteed it’s going to be a pain in the ass.
At some point in our lives we might have had a mishap in the office, or your kid’s seatmate decided to draw on your kid’s uniform. Surely the ballpoint pens may have been an amazing choice of a pen because they dry quickly, don’t smudge and are fade-resistant but that makes them a lot harder to remove. But just like any other thing in life, there’s always going to be a solution to that. Fortunately, it is possible to remove ink stains from clothes using common household products.
TIP#1: Try Using Nail Polish Remover
Nail polish can definitely work its magic on permanent ink stains, but the downside is that it can damage fabrics. You should test it on an inner seam or a hidden area of your clothing first. If everything goes well, get a paper towel or clean cloth and dab the nail polish remover directly on the stain. This will help water down the ink stain and will make it easy to remove when washing. Make sure to move the stained area to a clean, dry section of a towel as the ink is removed. Once done, wash the nail polish remover completely from the fabric and wash the clothing too as recommended on the care label.
TIP#2: Try Using Vinegar and Cornstarch
First, soak the ink stain with the vinegar. After that, make a paste with two parts of vinegar and three parts cornstarch. Apply it carefully and directly to the ink stain. Make sure that it soaks or sleeps on the clothing, let it dry completely then wash it right away and properly as recommended on the care label.
TIP#3: Try Using Hairspray
Almost all hair sprays contain alcohol, thus making it possible for them to dissolve the ink and remove stains from clothing. Look for a hairspray with high alcohol content, you can try the cheapest brand because they have lots of alcohol content and often the best ones. Put a clean towel under the fabric where the stain is, spray the stain thoroughly with the hairspray and dab it with another clean towel until the stain is gone. Wash the clothing as recommended on the care label.
TIP#4: Try Rubbing Alcohol
Same as nail polish remover, you should test it first on an inner seam or a hidden area of your clothing. If everything goes well, get a paper towel or clean cloth and dab the rubbing alcohol directly on the stain. This will thin out the stain and make it easier to remove it in the wash. The towel underneath can have discoloring from the ink stain, if this occurs move your clothes to another clean and dry area of the towel to prevent staining it again.
Just remember that some ink stains might be harder to remove, so don’t get frustrated if the process doesn't completely remove the stain. Keep trying another hack or method and it will surely lighten or remove the ink stain.
