Hip, hanging laptop stand made with a coat hanger
The only materials that you'll need for this build is a coat hanger, which is quite surprising. That's all. This build is made to work with an external keyboard and mouse, like most ergonomic laptop stands. You'll also need a corner of a desk to anchor your stand to.
More and more people are relying exclusively on laptops nowadays. Students, business people, road warriors, IT professionals - there is a clear trend that being mobile with your rig is necessary in the modern age.
With laptops, you need laptop accessories. Some people find them indispensable. Others try to work out simple ways of getting by without them. We found that this little project helped dealing with some of the issues of using a laptop day in day out. The position it uses is similar to expensive laptop stands.
The only materials that you'll need for this build is a coat hanger, which is quite surprising. That's all. This build is made to work with an external keyboard and mouse, like most ergonomic laptop stands. You'll also need a corner of a desk to anchor your stand to.
You start off by bending the bottom of the coat hanger. Then you need to bend it perpendicular to the other bend, so that it holds the laptop. You'll repeat this on the other side. Now it's time to make your laptop fit into the bends. You'll need to do some minor adjustments so that it fits in snugly. You can now bend the hanger itself to serve as a support to your stand.
We found this build extremely simple and great to use around the house when you don't want to spend a fortune on a laptop stand or a docking station. Another thing with this nifty stand is that it's almost invisible. You have to look really carefully to see what's behind it. At first glance, no one will notice it. In fact, it actually makes the laptop seemingly float on air.
