I don't know about you but I am tired of having to unravel my hose pipe to get rid of kinks and bends that stop water flowing, so here's how to have a kink-free hose pipe.

I love getting into the garden and taking the time to wander around checking how everything is growing; shrubs getting new leaves, plants putting forth new flowers, and my veggies flourishing with all the rain we have had. We all have so little free times these days as we rush around to get things done that it is nice to have a few moments to take in the garden. I find it so therapeutic that I almost feel my blood pressure lowering as I breathe in the scents around me. And then I have to unwind and un-kink the garden hose pipe and my calm mood disappears on the breeze! I don't even have a large garden, it's just the fact that my outdoor space has curves and corners that make it interesting but also difficult to set up the hose pipe and sprinkler without the inevitable kinks.

It doesn't make any difference how much you spend on a garden hose pipe - they all have a tendency to get kinks and even having a reel doesn't make it that much easier. When you want to relax in the garden you don't want to waste time unravelling, sorting out kinks and then reeling everything back in again. Here are a few tips to make a garden hose pipe easier to use and less of a hassle.

1. Unpack and unroll

When you buy a garden hose pipe it is wrapped in a tight circle, strapped and packaged. Most people tend to remove the straps, add the connectors and simply pull. That is one sure way to have a hose pipe full of kinks. It is far better to lay the hose pipe in a straight line - in your garden, down a path, or along a driveway will be ideal. As you unroll, twist the hose pipe to remove any kinks as you go. A hot, sunny day will soften the pipe and allow the pipe material to settle into its normal shape.

2. Avoid tight coils

When packing the hose pipe away after use, avoid wrapping it in tight or small coils. You will find it far easier to manage if you store with it larger coils that won't kink the pipe as much.

3. Split the difference

The longer the hose pipe the more kinks you will have to deal with and the more difficult to remove. If you need a long hose pipe to reach a far end of the garden, you could also split it into lengths that can easily be clicked apart and will allow you to water different areas of the garden with ease. Instead of rolling up the hose pipe every evening, now you can lay it along the edge of a garden path or flower bed and it is ready for use. This method also makes it easier to attach sprinkler heads.

To divide a hose pipe into sections, all you will need are some hose connectors and hose pipe extender connector - all of which are available at Builders.
