Make a braai using wheel rims

Turn an old rusty set of tyre rims into a braai that you can use for potjiekos, breakfast on the braai, or add a grill and use as a conventional braai.

Visit any car scrap yard and you will be able to pick up a set of steel rims at little cost. A braai made with steel rims will last a lifetime and with some welding skills you can add on your own decorative touches.

YOU WILL NEED:

Steel rims

Welding kit and tools - or someone who can do welding for you

Rust-Oleum High Heat Spray

HERE'S HOW:

1. If you are doing this project yourself you need to remove one side of each rim, so that they fit together.

2. With the sides removed, the rims are welded together.

After treating rust with Rust-Oleum Rust-Stripper, and sanding with steel wood, the rims were painted with Rust-Oleum high heat or Rust-Oleum Ultra high heat spray paint. You can't use any other paint as it will simply melt or peel off, and you can buy Rust-Oleum High Heat at your local Builders in various colours,

The holes at the base allow air circulation and you can use charcoal or wood. Two slabs level and support the finished braai.
