Relax and take a 'swing' seat
What's nicer than relaxing in the afternoon on a gently swaying swing seat. I did say gently. vt vonen designed this gorgeous swing for indoor seating, but it would be perfect for outdoors on the patio.

The best timber to use for this project would be seasoned pine or reclaimed timber. You could even use timber pallets.
The sections are joined together using 8mm pine dowels, for invisible joins and a more natural finish that is easily stained and sealed, as desired.

Pack of 8mm dowels
Wood glue
2 large shelf brackets
Thick rope
Wall plugs and anchor hooks*
TOOLS
Drill/driver with 8mm wood bit
8mm dowel centres
Orbital sander and 220-grit sanding pads
Mitre saw
HERE'S HOW:
1. Use 8mm dowels and dowel centres to glue together 3 backrest panels [A] for each seat back and put these aside to dry overnight.
2. Construct the seat frame by using dowels to attach the front/back frames [D] to the frame ends [C].
3. Place the assembled frame on top of the seat [B] and draw a pencil line around the inside and outside edges of the frame onto the seat. Drill dowel holes in the top edge of the frame and insert dowel centres to mark for cutting where you have drawn the outline on the seat. Drill out these holes for dowels.
4. Attach the frame to the seat with wood glue and dowels and put aside to dry.
5. Cut a 20-degree angle at one end of each backrest [A] and drill holes for 8mm dowels. Use dowel centres to mark on the top of the seat for positioning, before drilling holes, adding a bead of wood glue and using dowels to attach the backrests to the seat.
6. Although not shown on the original project, and for additional support, add two large brace brackets to the back of each backrest; screw to the backrest and top of the seat.
7. Drill two 8mm holes through the seat (inside the frame seat) to attach four sections of thick rope. Tie these in a knot and add a bead of wood glue to ensure a secure knot. These ropes can now be attached to roof beams using the proper hanging hardware. Ask at your local Builders Warehouse.
*Please ensure that the swing is securely and safely fastened to strong roof beams. We accept no responsibility or liability for swings not securely mounted.

The Le Beanock is made from durable, thick canvas fabric that is reinforced with vinyl corners that have eyelets that allow the insertion of a chain hook and length of chain for hanging from roof beams.
